The West Mendip Soaring Association (WMSA) is a non profit making club devoted to flying and building all types and sizes of radio controlled model gliders.

We fly on Crook Peak, which is between Weston-Super-Mare and Cheddar on the Mendip Hills in Somerset.  Crook Peak is owned by the National Trust and is considered an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).  For directions please look at our Location page.  The WMSA mainly slope soar, using the lift created by the wind blowing onto the hill.  Because of the shape of the hill, we get good lift in any wind direction.  If the wind is at least about 8 knots, then you can guarantee that you will enjoy a good long flight.  If the wind is lighter, then you can enjoy the challenges of looking for thermal lift.

Most of our members fly on Sundays, but there are also smaller groups of flyers on Saturdays and Wednesday afternoons.  Crook Peak is open 365 days a year, but the National Trust require that all visitors wishing to fly have adequate third party insurance.  We therefore request that any non-members wishing to fly (newcomers or experienced flyers) phone one of the Committee Members before planning a visit.  If you wish to become a member, please look at our Join Us page.

We also have access to a flat-field near Cheddar.  Here, some of our members fly gliders off a winch or bungee or fly electric or fuel powered models.

We hold club meetings on the second Thursday of each month at Congresbury Village Hall at 8pm.  For directions, please contact one of the Committee Members.
